In 1940, Ernest Hemingway wrote one of his best novels about the Spanish civil war: "For whom the bell tolls". Some years later the story was taken to the cinema. But there is no doubt that the american writer took the title of his book from that meditation of John Donne -who, by the way, was a priest-.*
