"the popular, and heavily romanticised, interpretation of this closeness is that "There is a light that never goes out" is a love song to johnny marr, who regularly ferried the singer around by car.
asked in 2005 if this was the case, Morrissey stated: "It wasnt and it isnt".
"i never spent much time thinking about that stuff", adds Marr. "it was only after the band split that these theories came out. only Morrissey knows. when we recorded it i wasnt there thinking, "aw, this is about me", or anything. if it is, great. if it's not, then it's still a great song. i'm sure there's worse songs written about me so it might as well be a good one. but, for the record, i wasnt the only person who used to drive Morrissey around by car, put it that way".

I just wake up and read this. Thank you Valeria, you ruined my day. Just the only thought about a love song written from a man to another, makes me sick
how odd! i found this story as remarkable.
it's one of may favourites songs of all the times
they say: homophobia may hide suppressed homosexuality
Are you suggesting that I may be homosexual?
They also say that a jealous guy in fact is an insecure man
that is what john lennon says
Yes. I took it from his song. But here we have not just a jealous guy, also a coward one...
actually i wrote this post because i like very much the story and because it is one of my favourite songs, till the point that i made stamp a phrase of its lyric in a t-shirt that was going to be a gift for someone.
yes. i know... i can be so stupid sometimes or i could be such stupid girl a long time ago...
but that's another story
Did you do that because you were in love?
i wont answer that
Did you finally give him the present?
nope. never
I got it. It is the idiot who never went to pick you up at the airport.
the one who despised me (oh, oh, so tragic like Morrissey)
